Unit Definition (chain [Ramsden, engineer]) The Ramsden chain is quite different to the Gunter chain. The Ramsden chain was commonly used by American surveyors. It equals approximately 100 feet and is also known as the engineer's chain.
Unit Definition (heer) The heer is a traditional measure of length for linen and woolen yarn, equal to 2 cuts or 1/6 hank (see above). This is equivalent to 80 yards (73.152 meters).
